Power plant slag sorting process

Slag is a by-product of domestic waste incineration, which is produced in large quantities and has a high potential for resourcing. About 20-30% of slag is generated after incineration of domestic waste. Slag mainly consists of an uneven granular mixture of ceramics, masonry fragments, stones, glass, slag, iron and other scrap metals and unburnt combustibles.

Due to its stability, the material and engineering properties of slag are similar to those of lightweight natural sand and gravel aggregates, and it can be easily processed into commercial products with easy particle size distribution. Valuable metals can be recovered, purified into recycled aggregates or processed into environmentally friendly recycled products, with the advantages of reduction, harmlessness and resourcefulness.

Process flow

Firstly, the slag is sent into the feeding bin by loader, then the slag enters into the tumbler screen for screening through conveyor belt.

Screening and sorting: After initial cooling, the slag enters the screening equipment for initial sorting. This step is aimed at separating large materials from useful metals for subsequent processing.

Crushing and sorting: Jaw crusher coarse crushing, hammer crusher secondary crushing, the slag particle size is reduced step by step crushing, in order to improve the metal sorting rate.

Magnetic separation: after screening, the metal part of the slag will be transported to the magnetic separation equipment for magnetic separation. This step can effectively extract the ferromagnetic materials.

Gravity sorting: adopt jigger and shaking table to sort and recover copper metal. The large material on the jigger is fed into the leaping screen for grading and dewatering; the fine material under the jigger is fed into the shaking table to separate the non-ferrous metals (copper, lead and zinc) by means of re-election.

Eddy current sorting: The aluminium metal in the slag is sorted and recovered by the eddy current sorting machine.

Wastewater treatment: All the flushing wastewater goes into the fine sand dewatering and recycling machine, sedimentation tank and thick tank, and the slurry after sedimentation is dewatered by filter press.

Finished product out of the warehouse: the product of the slag after sorting and processing is environmentally friendly sand, which can be sold for use as road surfacing material.

The equipment system described above only covers the main slag treatment equipment, but also need more equipment with it, in order to make a slag treatment plant normal operation.
